In recent decades, Western consumers have been able to purchase numerous products at very good prices. Unfortunately, bargains usually hide a con. Globalisation was sold as a feasible way to achieve global wealth but it has produced a lot of collateral damage. Companies delocalized to reduce costs and increase profits. Salaries diminished and labour rights were reduced. Income tax revenues have also shrunk and public services have been cut back. This is the system that allows impoverished consumers to buy cheap goods. It is one example of how the economic system twists logic and perverts the common good. This is the economy of the absurd.
