Santiago Escalona is a deputy inspector who recently joined the civil police force at a police station in the Barcelona Raval neighbourhood. His former superior, who is now dying in the Hospital del Mar, has asked him to investigate a possible assassination that has long been forgotten.
Alberto Boisgontier, a left-wing student and activist, died the afternoon of 19 November 1975 when he fell on to the train tracks at the Grà cia station and was run over by a train. This happened three days after he was released from a prison on VÃa Laietana, where he received a vicious beating.
At the time nobody was interested in investigating a possible crime, partly because of the deceasedÂ’s background, and partly because Francisco Franco died only a few hours after the incident, claiming the mediaÂ’s full attention.
What seemed to be the whim of a dying man turns into an investigation in which all kinds of dirty secrets hidden for more than 30 years begin to emerge. Nobody seems to want to help Escalona clear up what happened; neither the ex-girlfriend (the daughter of one of FrancoÂ’s ministers), nor the police who detained him, or the deceasedÂ’s former colleagues, now influential figures.
When Escalona notices he is being followed he begins to realise the true magnitude of the case and starts to be afraid for his lifeÂ…
